President Bola Tinubu will, on Thursday, begin a two-nation tour covering Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s first destination will be Yokohama, Japan, where he will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.
Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, TICAD9 will focus on advancing Africa’s economic transformation, strengthening business environments and institutions through private investment and innovation, and fostering a resilient, sustainable continent built on human security, peace, and stability.
In addition to attending plenary sessions, President Tinubu will hold bilateral talks and meet with executives of Japanese firms currently investing in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Japanese government, and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was hosted in Tunisia in August 2022.
Following his engagements in Japan, the President will travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
While in Brazil, he will hold discussions with his host, participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and lead a delegation of key ministers and senior officials to explore new areas of cooperation. The visit will also feature the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
